Sodium carbonate, with the chemical formula Na2CO3, is a base. It comes in the form of white, odorless crystals that are soluble in water. In everyday language, it is also known as soda ash or washing soda. Its first recorded uses date back to ancient Egypt, for glassmaking. Today it is a raw material widely used in industry.
