Frequently asked questions about plastic degreaser

Why use a special plastic degreaser?

A plastic cleaner is a product that allows the surface to be cleaned without attacking the material. Each plastic has its own chemical nature (ABS, PMMA, PC...), which is more or less sensitive to chemicals (solvents, acids, bases, surfactants). This incompatibility risks damaging the plastic through chemical attack on the surface (dissolution, matting), or through the phenomenon of crazing (appearance of micro-cracks in the plastic or cracking). Our plastic degreaser cleans oils, greases, lubricants, and waxes while preserving the appearance and mechanical strength of the plastic. Find it on this page.

What can I clean with a plastic degreaser?

This type of degreaser, as its name suggests, cleans plastic materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene... It removes greases, oils, lubricants, waxes, fingerprints, and release agents. It can be used before painting. However, it is necessary to take precautions and to first test the cleaner on the plastic material in question. For any queries, contact our technical department.

What is an antistatic plastic degreaser?

This type of degreaser both cleans and degreases plastic surfaces while also preventing the rapid re-deposition of dust. It thus prevents the build-up of static electricity charges. We offer this cleaning product in various pack sizes: 5 L cans, 20 L cans, and 200 L drums. Find the details on this page.

How should a plastic degreaser be applied?

Depending on individual methods, a plastic cleaning solvent can be applied by cloth, by spray, by spraying, or by immersion. Do not use abrasives. We remain at your disposal to assist you with the maintenance of your plastic materials.

What are the different types of plastic degreaser?

Plastic degreasers can be classified and identified according to two categories: water-based degreasers and solvent-based degreasers. Water-based degreasers are primarily composed of water and surfactants. Solvent-based degreasers are generally mixtures of organic solvents (alcohols, hydrocarbons, ketones, ethers, esters...), which may also contain additives (surfactants, anti-corrosion inhibitors, adhesion promoters...). In both cases, not just any cleaner can be applied to any plastic. Care must be taken regarding the actual composition of the plastic, which may be more or less sensitive to the presence of acids, bases, and organic solvents. Using the wrong product can lead to surface degradation: matting, cracking, softening, solubilization... It is necessary to choose a plastic degreaser suited to the application as well as to the nature of the plastic.

How do I clean plexiglass with a plastic degreaser?

The plastic degreasers manufactured by Arcane Industries clean and degrease surfaces. They also help prevent the rapid re-deposition of dust and prevent the build-up of static electricity charges. Find them on this page.
