Denatured ethanol is an ethyl alcohol to which one or more substances, such as methyl ethyl ketone or isopropyl alcohol, have been added to render it undrinkable. Denaturation preserves the properties of the alcohol. In Europe, alcohol is subject to a tax: the excise duty. Since denatured alcohol is undrinkable, excise duty does not apply.
Professional declaration
Under the general tax code and within the framework of excise duty exemptions applicable to alcohol and alcoholic beverages, for purchases exceeding 10L, the customer must provide us with a professional declaration (UT declaration), which can easily be obtained from customs on the website:
Ethyl alcohol (ethanol) can be obtained by natural fermentation of plant materials, or by synthesis from petrochemical products.
This grade of ethyl alcohol has undergone complete denaturation using the eurodenaturant process, a common procedure applicable to all member states, as defined in European Regulation 1867/2016 of 20 October 2016, with per hectoliter of absolute ethanol: 1 liter of IPA (tracer), 1 liter of MEK (odor agent), 1 gram of denatonium benzoate (bittering agent).
This product is a colorless liquid at a concentration of 96%. It is available in various packaging formats: a carton of 4 x 5-liter cans, a 20-liter can, a 200-liter drum, and a 975-liter IBC.
