Benzyl alcohol (CAS 100-51-6) or alpha-hydroxytoluene is a primary alcohol with the semi-developed formula C6H5-CH2OH. It is naturally present in certain plants and flowers, including ylang ylang, jasmine, garlic, almond, apple... It is therefore found in many essential oils. It is also produced synthetically.
It appears as a colorless, flammable and irritating liquid.

MAIN FUNCTIONS
Used as a bactericide and fungicide, but also as a solvent.
INDUSTRIAL USE
- Paint industry: used as a solvent, thinner for industrial coatings, particularly for epoxy paints
- Paint stripper industry: formulation of paint strippers
- Chemical industry: synthesis precursor for several esters
- Ink industry: used as a thinner and cleaner for screen printing screen maintenance, as a pen ink thinner, and as a raw material for the manufacture of textile dyes
USAGE RECOMMENDATIONS
Benzyl alcohol is harmful if swallowed or inhaled.
When used according to regulatory doses and following the indicated dosage, it has no impact on health.
It is recommended to wear gloves to protect the skin when handling the product.
