PnB – Propylene Glycol N-Butyl Ether – CAS 5131-66-8

Solvent and coalescent agent for acrylic paints and waterborne systems

The PnB (Propylene Glycol N-Butyl Ether)CAS 5131-66-8 – is a colorless, fast-evaporating glycol ether solvent, widely used in the manufacture of paints, coatings, inks, adhesives, and industrial detergents.

It is particularly valued as a coalescent agent in paints based on acrylic, styrene-acrylic, and polyvinyl acetate resins.

DESCRIPTION

PnB is a propylene glycol ether offering an excellent balance between solvency, evaporation rate, and formulation compatibility.

It has good miscibility with the majority of organic solvents and partial miscibility with water, making it suitable for hybrid systems and waterborne formulations.

It also constitutes an alternative to ethylene glycol ethers (notably EB solvent), allowing certain formulations to be optimized while maintaining technical performance.
