DPM is a neutral, transparent, low-volatility, water-miscible solvent. It is intended for use in the printing ink and coatings industry. DPM is hygroscopic and has a mild odor.
In coating formulations, it improves flow and applicability and slows evaporation. Its good miscibility with water and common organic solvents makes it suitable for both solvent-based and "hydro" systems. It is thus used, for example and without limitation, for cellulose lacquers or alkyd resin-based paints, wood stains and varnishes, printing pastes, inks for leather marking, and special inks for stamp pads.
DPM is also used as a synthesis intermediate in the manufacture of other products.
In summary, it may be a component in the following specialties:
- industrial cleaners, degreasers,
- paints,
- metal and other surface cleaners,
- printing ink solvents,
- fabric dye coupling agents,
- cosmetics
