PM or methoxy propylene glycol is a colorless, clear, and hygroscopic solvent. It is moderately soluble and miscible with water.
It is used for coatings and printing inks and has a slight alcohol odor and good solvent power for many raw materials used in coatings.
It improves the applicability, flow, and gloss of air-drying paints.
It is the fastest-drying solvent in the propylene glycol family (notably compared to DPM solvent propylene glycol ether, PNB, and DPNB).
Its miscibility with water and many common organic solvents allows it applications in the coatings industry for the production of cellulose nitrate-based varnishes, and for printing inks, notably cellulose nitrate flexographic inks.
