DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL (DPG) is a synthetic organic solvent in the glycol family, consisting of a mixture of isomers. It is clear and colorless, slow-evaporating, nearly odorless, hygroscopic, and miscible with water and most organic solvents. These properties make it a highly valued solvent for cosmetic, flavor, and fragrance applications.
In cosmetics and fragrances, it helps dissolve ingredients, adjust viscosity, and fix and carry fragrances. Its ability to dissolve alcohols and essential oils helps resolve compatibility issues. It is widely used in home fragrances.
It is also used as a moisturizer/humectant in many cosmetic applications.
It is also used in hydraulic fluids, as a plasticizer and a reaction intermediate, and in the manufacture of polyester and alkyd resins.
