Triethanolamine TEA 85%
Triethanolamine (TEA) is a tertiary amine and a trialcohol. This raw material is widely used in the manufacture of cosmetic products and detergents. Obtained by the reaction between ethylene oxide and ammonia, its chemical formula is C6H15NO3.
Triethanolamine is a weak base with hygroscopic properties, making it a good choice as an alkaline agent.
We offer this product packaged in 23 kg containers, intended for professionals.

MAIN FUNCTIONS
- Masking agent: reduces or inhibits bad odors.
- pH agent: it modifies or stabilizes the pH of a solution (buffering agent).
- Surfactant: it serves to neutralize fatty acids for the formation of surfactants/soaps.
INDUSTRIAL USE
- Detergent industry: raw material for the manufacture of professional cleaning products, car shampoos, and polishing wax
- Raw material for the preparation of corrosion inhibitors, particularly for cutting fluids
- Gas industries: acid gas absorbent for the purification of natural and refinery gases
- Metal treatment: chelating agent for cleaning, chemical or electrolytic deposition
In cosmetic or pharmaceutical grade (on request only):
- Cosmetic industry: cosmetic raw material used in the manufacture of moisturizing hair care products, shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays, perm products, styling gels... Also used in the manufacture of makeup and face creams: mascaras, cleansers, makeup removal lotions, depilatory creams, shaving foam. Also found in colognes, perfumes, and bath oils. Can also be used as a neutralizing agent for long-chain fatty acids such as lauric, ricinoleic, oleic and stearic acids, thus forming soaps. These soaps are water-soluble and have emulsifying properties.
- Pharmaceutical industry: active ingredient in Biafine, an ointment used against superficial burns
USAGE INSTRUCTIONS
In cosmetics, its use is regulated to a maximum content of 2.5% (see Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, Annex III, line 62, categories Trialkylamines, trialkanolamines and their salts ).
Detergent: TEA 85% can be used to neutralize our dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid LABSA and form a surfactant with good wetting, detergent and foaming properties. It will be used in shampoos and bubble baths (equivalent to Marlopon AT50, Bio-Soft N-300, CAS 27323-41-7).
Note: Amines such as MEA and TEA are known to react with nitrites to form nitrosamines, which are known to be carcinogenic. This type of mixture should therefore be avoided.
