Sulfonic Acid

Dodecylbenzene Sulfonic Acid (or LABSA, linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid) is one of the most common surfactants for detergent formulation. It has excellent cleaning properties and is inexpensive. This raw material is a mixture of molecules produced by a sulfonation reaction, which yields mixtures containing molecules with linear carbon chains of 10 to 14 carbon atoms, linked to a phenyl group bearing the sulfonate function.

Sulfonic acid is, like sulfuric acid, a strong acid. Its chemical formula is C18H30O3S. It can be used in the manufacture of acid detergents. The salts and esters of sulfonic acids are called sulfonates.

It is also the precursor of sodium or potassium dodecylbenzene sulfonates (LAS, linear alkylbenzene sulfonate, or LABSA) through reaction with a base (caustic soda, potash, etc.). The latter is a recognized anionic surfactant used in the manufacture of many cleaning product and detergent formulations. It is compatible with many surfactants of anionic, non-ionic, or amphoteric nature.

We supply many companies. We offer this first-quality sulfonic acid in 20L jerrycans and 200L drums.
