PH (hydrogen potential) measures the alkalinity or acidity of the water in a pool or spa. When the pH equals 7, the water has a neutral pH. It is generally recommended for pools to have a slightly basic pH, around 7.4. An unbalanced pH harms water quality, promotes algae growth, changes in water color, and can be detrimental to swimming. It also contributes to overconsumption of disinfectants such as chlorine. The pH changes depending on air temperature, weather conditions, the environment around the pool, and usage frequency. It must be checked frequently.
To verify the water's pH, professionals use an electronic pH meter. It is also possible to acquire a pump that automatically manages the dosage of treatments.
