Ammonium hydroxide (chemical formula NH4OH or NH3.H2O) commonly called ammonia or alkali is ammonia gas (NH3) dissolved in water. Ammonia gas NH3 is manufactured almost exclusively by the Haber-Bosch process from hydrogen and nitrogen elements. When dissolved in solution, it partially reacts with water to form ammonium hydroxide. Ammonia is found naturally in gaseous form in our bodies and in the environment. However, in large quantities, it can be harmful.
We offer ammonium hydroxide in solution (20% by weight ammonia in water), packaged in 20L cans and 200L drums. Purchase is exclusively reserved for professionals.
MAIN FUNCTIONS
Ammonia is the chemical precursor of many nitrogen compounds through chemical synthesis. Ammonia, on the other hand, is used in dilution as a stain remover and degreaser. It is part of the composition of many household products.
INDUSTRIAL USE
- Chemical industries: reagent for synthesis, neutralizing agent
- Textile Industries: treatment and stain remover
- Manufacturing of petroleum and fuels
- Manufacturing of fertilizers (base compound for the production of nitrogen fertilizers, urea salts, ammonium salts)
- Metal treatment (metal brightener)
- Manufacturing of maintenance products (pH agent, complexing agent)
- Manufacturing of hair coloring products: catalyst. You can use MEA Monoethanolamine as a substitute.
- Tobacco industry: additive present in tobacco
- Woodworking: wood staining by reaction with tannins
PROFESSIONAL USE
- Ammonia is a professional maintenance product.
- Window cleaning
- Oven cleaning
- Tile stripping
- Professional fabric cleaning
OTHER COMMON USES
Households use it in the home to:
- remove stains from laundry (grease, blood, wine, sauce...)
- clean carpets, rugs, mattresses, shoes, and other fabrics
- age new wood
- clean tiles
Individuals also use sodium bicarbonate, household vinegar, citric acid to clean their homes.
USAGE INSTRUCTIONS
To clean carpets and rugs: dilute 200 mL of ammonia in 10 liters of water. Scrub the surface.
To clean windows: dilute 150 mL of ammonia in 1 liter of water. Scrub the surface.
Take necessary precautions when handling the product. It is a corrosive product that emits a strong odor that causes tearing and suffocation. Use in a very airy or well-ventilated area. Wear appropriate protective gloves and clothing. Store in a cool place away from light. Close tightly after use
