Monoethylene glycol MEG, or dihydroxyethane, is a colorless liquid with low volatility. The product is extremely hygroscopic.
MEG is miscible with water, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and esters.
Monoethylene glycol can be used as an intermediate in the production of solvents and resins. It is also used in the manufacture of PET (polyethylene terephthalate), for the production of textile fibers and packaging.
Furthermore, the high boiling point of ethylene glycol and its strong affinity for water make it an ideal dehydrating agent for natural gas production.
MEG is commonly used as a raw material for antifreeze fluids and heat transfer fluids.
