DBE or DiBasic Esters belongs to the family of methyl esters of dicarboxylic acids. It consists essentially of a mixture of dimethyl adipate, dimethyl glutarate, and dimethyl succinate.
This solvent is low-volatility, colorless to slightly yellow, and is classified as non-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) according to the European directive (1999/13/EC). It is a low-odor solvent with a high flash point, readily biodegradable and non-toxic to aquatic organisms. DBE is almost insoluble in water but miscible with most organic solvents (alcohol, ether, ketone, esters, hydrocarbons). It is a solvent not classified as hazardous.
Its strong solvent power allows it to be used in numerous applications
Applications:
- Inks
- Lubricant
- Synthesis intermediate (polyesters)
- Polymer recycling (polystyrene)
- Asphalt release agent
- Solvent for unsaturated polyester resins, styrenic resin diluent.
- Paint and resin formulation
- Detergent and stripper formulation
