Calcium Chloride is a white inorganic salt with the molecular formula CaCl2. This solid chemical is strongly hygroscopic and reacts exothermically when dissolved in water. It is commonly found in its dihydrate form CaCl2.2H2O. It is highly soluble in water (745 g/L) and provides good conductivity to the solution.
It is manufactured by various processes (refining of brine, mineralization of limestone/chalk with hydrochloric acid, or as a by-product of the SOLVAY process). Calcium chloride is a secondary product of sodium carbonate manufacturing.
It comes in the form of white flakes. We offer it in 25 kg bags, intended for professional use.
Due to its hygroscopic properties, it absorbs moisture from the air. Reseal the container airtight to optimize storage.
MAIN FUNCTIONS
Widely used for road de-icing or dust suppression, cement manufacturing, and refrigeration unit production.
INDUSTRIAL USE
- Oil industry: Fluidity agent for oil and gas drilling.
- Concrete industry: Drying accelerator
- Road maintenance industry: Dust suppressant.
PROFESSIONAL USE
- Snow removal agent: Applied to snow, it initiates ice melting at very low temperatures. It has the advantage of not being harmful to vegetation.
- Dehydrating agent (absorber of moisture from air, gases, and seeds).
- Dust suppressant (dust fixative for clay tennis courts, construction site paths). Used on certain highways to fix dust on the road.
- Concrete setting accelerator solution (particularly in cold weather).
- Pool professionals: used to increase the hardness of pool water. Browse our full range of pH regulators.
OTHER COMMON USES
Used in household air dehumidifiers.
USAGE TIPS
To suppress dust on paths: apply between 0.6 and 1.0 kg per m².
To improve cement setting: adding 2% allows achieving a set at 10°C equivalent to that obtained at 20°C.
Caution: this chemical product is highly exothermic. Dissolving sodium chloride in water can reach temperatures up to 60°C.
Calcium chloride salts are highly hygroscopic and have harmful effects on the body: they can cause severe burns in particular. Take all necessary precautions when handling. For your safety and health, wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
